En Avant Guingamp and SM Caen cancelled each other out as the pair played out a goalless draw in Brittany on Sunday.

 EA Guingamp 0-0 SM Caen

THE MATCH
The pair had played out a goalless draw just before Christmas when they had met in Normandy, but the opening exchanges suggested there would be no repeat of that stalemate at the Stade du Roudourou.

Enzo Crivelli, who led the Caen line with Ivan Santini having been ill during the week and starting on the substitutes’ bench, fired in a shot that Youssef Aït Bennasser brought under control — he fired just wide of Karl Johnsson’s right-hand post (3′).

The Swedish goalkeeper then denied Crivelli a maiden Caen league goal since arriving on loan from Angers SCO in January by parrying the burly forward’s half-volley (10′).

Hard-won point

Only an equally well-timed challenge from Christophe Kerbrat halted Stef Peeters en route to the Guingamp goal after he had been played in by Ronny Rodelin (50′). The experienced EAG centre-back did something similar to nip a counter-attack in the bud shortly afterwards (78′).

Guingamp, who had lost four in a row before last weekend’s derby win over Stade Rennais, were living dangerously, but Johnsson stood up to block Damien Da Silva (84′), a double scorer in Caen’s win over Nantes in Week 24, to earn his team a hard-won point.

THE PLAYER: Christophe Kerbrat
The Breton-born centre-back has played over 150 top-flight games for the only club whose shirt he has ever worn as a professional, and this display was one of the best. Steady and assured, Kerbrat contributed significantly to the clean sheet and potentially vital point.

THE STAT: 10
Guingamp have now taken their number of clean sheets in Ligue 1 Conforama this season into double figures.
