Stevan Jovetic, filling in for the injured Radamel Falcao, scored twice as Ligue 1 Conforama champions Monaco scored a convincing 4-0 win at Angers to climb to second in the table.

 Angers SCO 0-4 AS Monaco

THE MATCH

Three wins in six gave Angers hope coming into the game, especially with Falcao sidelined, yet the optimistic mood was shattered 10 minutes in when goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle scored an unfortunate own goal as the ball rebounded off the post, onto his head and over the line.

Jovetic doubled the advantage on the half-hour with a delightful clip over Butelle after being played in by Adama Diakhaby as Monaco countered. Seydou Sy was in goal for Monaco with Danijel Subasic and Diego Benaglio both suspended and Sy made his first save on the stroke of half-time from Pierrick Capelle.

Angers began the second period strongly and the lively Karl Toko Ekambi set up Thomas Mangani for a chance. Yet Angers’ prospects of a revival were ended on 65 minutes when substitute Thomas Lemar rolled the ball across the face of the goal for Jovetic to tap in.

Six minutes later a slick Monaco move resulted in a fourth goal. Youri Tielemans collected Joao Moutinho’s cross in the area and crossed to the far post where an unmarked Andrea Raggi turned in his first goal of the season. The maximum haul took Monaco above Marseille by a point and Leonardo Jardim’s side are now second 12 points adrift of leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

THE PLAYER: Stevan Jovetic

Montenegro’s record scorer enjoyed arguably his best game since joining the champions. After setting up Rony Lopes’ winner against Olympique Lyonnais in Week 24, the 28-year-old starred at centre-forward with Falcao injured and Keita Baldé suspended. Jovetic’s double doubled his Ligue 1 Conforama goal tally for the season.

THE STAT: 10

Monaco are unbeaten in 10 Ligue 1 Conforama matches, winning seven of them and drawing three. It is the longest unbeaten sequence of any club in the top division.
