Jullien loses TFC armband
Toulouse coach Pascal Dupraz has decided to strip the captain’s armband from Christopher Jullien and entrust it to his fellow defender Issa Diop.
Jullien, 24, had been Toulouse captain since the beginning of season 2017-18, but the stopped has had the armband taken away by coach Pascal Dupraz following a stormy encounter between the two men.
The fact that Steeve Yago wore the armband for the TFC’s 1-1 Week 8 draw with Guingamp on September 30 – while Jullien, who made 35 appearances and scored four goals last season – was a starter, indicated that Dupraz had made a decision.
Dupraz was reportedly more than disappointed after the 2-0 Week 7 defeat in Marseille and made his feelings more than clear to the then-captain. The rift was then confirmed the following week, after the draw with Guingamp, when Dupraz quipped that Jullien “hadn’t got off the team bus”.
Now Dupraz had found a successor: France youth international Issa Diop (56 Ligue 1 Conforama appearances, four goals). The central defender, 20, is a graduate of Toulouse’s youth academy and was reportedly promised upon Dupraz’s arrival at the club in 2016 that he would one day wear the captain’s armband.
Diop’s first test will come after the international break, when the TFC play host to promoted Amiens, who currently sit in 16th, two places and two points shy of Toulouse.
